Our staff here at NHS have reecntly been reflecting on our progress over the past 10 years and celebrating all of our successes since we went to Block Scheduling. Our test scores have gone up significantly, our AP pass rate has gone up, our drop out rate has gone down, and our attendance numbers are some of the best in the district! It has also enabled us to expand our Academies, and offer our students a much wider variety of options when it comes to their schooling. We believe in the work we have done, and are very proud to call ourselves Norwalk Lancers!
Semester 3 has ended and I had very good class averages across the board! Great job guys! Looking forward to Spring Break, and then our final 9 week push to the finish line. We will have our interviews in O.T.B. and we will be setting up our businesses in Accounting when we come back. Keep up the hard work Seniors! Your time is about to come.
Had a great experience this week when I had some students lead the class! My students were interested in learning Prezi, which is an internet based presentation software. Since I was not experienced enough in the program to give them a solid lesson, I turned the class over to a few technology gurus that I fortunately have, and they went to town! On their own time they created a Prezi that demonstrated how to use Prezi, and then led the class through a complete lesson, including an hour of guided practice! We all learned a lot!
Just finished our Entrepreneurship Project in Orientation to Business. Just when I think I know everything about some of these successful entrepreneurs, students find new information to share. Did you know that Howard Schultz bought Starbucks after working there, and his motivation for making it such a success was the fact the previuos owners would not listen to any of his ideas? Love learning from my students!
"But back in Seattle, the Starbucks owners resisted Schultz's plans to serve coffee in the stores, saying they didn't want to get into the restaurant business. Frustrated, Schultz quit and started his own coffee-bar business, called Il Giornale. It was successful, and a year later Schultz bought Starbucks for $3.8 million." Term 1 is done! Had a great first term with fantastic students and now looking forward to Term 2 and a whole new group of Lancers! Let's do this!
Just finishing our last assignments and projects before heading off to Winter Break! Our annual Holiday Staff Pot Luck is tomorrow, and I'm looking forward to it. It is a great opportunity for some staff bonding and to visit with colleagues we may only see at meetings and such! Hope everyone has a great Holiday and a Happy New Year!
We have just finished our Mock Interview Project, and it went great! The students really get into asking, and answering, the interview questions, and can see the absolute relevancy of the project. It is also nice to see them in "professional" clothes. Some of them spruce up very nice!
We have learned so much in these past four days! Cannot wait to get into my classroom, see the new technology and explore. So many thoughts on great lessons flying through my head!
